Elena is an enthusiastic, Occupational Therapist and Case Manager with a broad range of experiences in integrated health and social care across both physical and mental health sectors.

Working within these care sectors has allowed her to develop sound clinical and associated competencies that are transferable across a wide range of care settings and consist of excellent clinical prioritisation and time management skills, problem solving abilities, proficient communication skills and multi-disciplinary working.

During her 14 years’ experience Elena has worked with a variety of client groups. These include paediatrics with physical and learning disabilities, orthopaedic injuries, adults/older adults with physical and psychological impairments and Spinal Injuries.

Elena now specialises in the field of Spinal Injuries. Her passion and enthusiasm for this area has driven her to achieve the position she currently holds. As part of her role Elena assesses the individual’s needs, formulating a therapy plan before implementing and evaluating interventions. Interventions include splinting, individual and group upper limb sessions, functional tasks such as feeding, washing and dressing techniques, assessing the home environment, the provision of equipment and psychological interventions such as anxiety management techniques.

Elena understands the complexity and psychological impact a spinal injury can have on an individual as well as the family. She therefore adapts her approach to each case according to the needs of the individual.

Elena confidently fulfils the role of a Key worker within her setting. She facilitates goal planning meetings and coordinates the care and discharges of complex spinal Injury patients.

Elena is a proactive member of the multidisciplinary team. Her friendly but professional manner has allowed her to build positive relationships with the multidisciplinary team and individuals working for external agencies she refers to.

In accordance with the Continuing Professional Development requirement placed on Elena as a qualified practitioner she has attended many courses and in-service training sessions. These courses and in-service training sessions have enhanced her knowledge and therapeutic skills with regards to Continuing Healthcare, wheelchairs (manual, powered and active user) and postural management (cushions and accessories), wheelchair skills, splinting (static and neurological), community services, cognition and perception, food hygiene, multi-sensory training and key worker training.

Elena has a particular interest in the field of spinal injuries with children and young people. She also volunteers with the “Make A Wish” charity.

Elena is a key asset within Stokes Case Management due to her specialist knowledge, skills and experience within the field of Spinal Injuries.
